As I start on my journey towards better health, I’m wondering why we need the motivation to exercise. We know that exercise is good for us. Why do we have to be motivated to do something good for our bodies? I will attempt to answer that in this article.

I am almost 50 years old. My wife and I have decided to join the gym and beginning an exercise program. I also started to eat better and to cut most alcohol out of my diet. I watch the weight creep up in the past years. When you’re in your forties, you may not even realize that you are gaining weight. it starts slowly, and before you know it, you’ll gain a lot of weight. You don’t even have to do much to gain weight.

The reason for this is that your body is changing. If you keep eating as you did as a teenager or younger adult, you’re going to gain weight. There is no way around this. As you get older, you have to change your diet. Your muscles also begin to lose mass, and this gets replaced with fat. We call this process sarcopenia. It begins to happen earlier on in life but really picks up speed once you hit the age of 50 and above. To limit its effects, you can begin weight training, which will help replace lost muscle mass. This is what I have been doing with strength training, a cardio program, and a change in my diet.
