What Would You Do with a Billion Dollars?
We spend our lives in a never-ending quest for money. Some of us to do okay, while others struggle. Some of us have all the money in the world, and a lot of them consider themselves to be above other people. I know this to be the case in the way they act and the way that they treat other individuals. It’s like this money that they have somehow made them superior.
Some of us look up the people with a lot of money. Some might say that it’s envy or maybe we want to live like the way they do. We want the big flashy cars, the huge mansions, the never-ending travel, for the ability to do anything you want in this world. Some of us might wish to that, but there are others about that want to see a better world for everyone. So, I am asking you what you would do with a billion dollars?
“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
A Billion Dollars Does it Matter to You?
Do a billion dollars even matter to you? I mean, it doesn’t matter at all to me. I look at it as just a bunch of extra zeros next to my name. Think about it. That is is all we are. We are only people with a certain number of zeros next to our name. I’m always amazed when I go out and meet other people, and all they seem to do is talk about their job and how much money they make. Is this all we are? So, if you were to win a billion dollars, would you immediately go out and get yourself a huge mansion, a bunch of cars, fancy clothing, and so on? I think that a lot of people would do this because they want to leave the good life that they’ve never had before.
What Would I Do?
The first thing I would do after winning a billion dollars would be to pay the bills of all my friends and family. I would ensure that they are all looked after. I do not need a billion dollars. What exactly am I going to do with it? My wife and I already have a nice car. Why would I need 12 different vehicles? Do I need to look unique and feel important with 12 Ferraris of different colors? What exactly is the point of that? It’s just my wife and me. Would I need a 23 room mansion? Do I want a butler? Do I want a bunch of people waiting on me hand and foot?
“When morality comes up against profit, it is seldom that profit loses.”
― Shirley Chisholm
The answer to this question is that I don’t need any of this at all. I don’t view a billion dollars as being anything that important. It’s just a bunch of zeros next to my name. It is not going to change me in any way. I would not become like a lot of people that have a lot of money. I don’t believe cash gives me any sort of power in this world., if we looked at money differently, this world would be a better place.
A Log Cabin
If I had a billion dollars, I would have a beautiful log cabin built for my wife because she’s always wanted one. It would be by the lake or by the ocean. I would have a pier when I could fish. We would probably have several animals and a garden where we could grow fresh food. The house would be more than just a couple of rooms. It would be enough for the two of us, but no more. I don’t need anything else. I don’t need 23 rooms, tennis courts, giant swimming pools, and so on. Why do people need all of this? Now, I’m not saying that people can’t have this. If someone wants to buy this with their money, then they are free to do it because I am not this person. I just look at it being rather expensive. Why do you need it all? You’re never going to be in all of those rooms?. It’s the excess of this world and the never-ending quest for more money that is causing all the problems.
Before my father died, he requested that we give the hospital $5,000. We fulfilled his wishes. The hospital wall has a plaque with his name on it and his donation. I would take a lot of my money and give it to my local hospital. I want people to be looked after as I don’t want them to suffer. Many of them do because they don’t have enough money to pay for their bills. Our hospital needs equipment, and they could have state-of-the-art equipment if the hospital were given enough donations. I would give the hospital a substantial gift.
I would give a lot of money to our homeless shelters. Many people are living on the street and don’t have anything at all. I would contact local officials and see if we could build some homes for these people to get them off the street. Why do we have people on the street in the year 2020? What exactly are we doing? We have all of this money, and no one deserves to be on the streets today. The reason why people are on the street today is people are greedy bastards, and they don’t give a rat’s ass about anyone else but their own miserable lives. All these people could be helped to get their lives back in order. Nah, those yachts, giant mansions, 25 cars, endless trips, mountains of cocaine, and so on are much more important than children dying. What an absolutely pathetic display of humanity.
“A house built on greed cannot long endure.”
― Edward Abbey
I would go to my local food bank and give it enough food, so it didn’t know what to do with it all. That would be enough food in his food bank to last a very long time. I would keep supplying the food bank with as much food as it needed. Why do I need millions of dollars in my bank account? I would help people and would rather make this world a better place. I would rather see human beings looked after. I will not let money control me. I don’t need a billion dollars to survive. Yes, those three mansions are more important than starving people, how silly of me.
I would walk into restaurants. I would calmly sit down and have a meal. Before I left, I would pay for everyone’s bill that was in there. I don’t think they’re too many billionaires that do that. There would be no reason for me to hang onto a billion dollars. I would be cruising sites such as Go Fund Me and finding people that were in need. I would probably do this with a big smile on my face. Little children would get the care they need, that airline trip for life-saving surgery would be paid for, the dog that needs care would have it, and so on. I would have a great time spending my money on other people.
Time to Change the World
It’s time to start changing this world. No one in this world has to suffer. There is so much we could do for our fellow human beings. Humanity has a chance to grow. All we need is to look inside ourselves to see that there is more to this life than how many zeros we have next to our name. I don’t see the zeros next to my name is being much of anything. I’m still the person I always was no matter how much money I have or how little money I have. I get by in this life with not a lot of money. If money makes the world go round, it’s doing a piss-poor job of it.
Define Yourself by your Deeds
If you want to build the giant mansions, buy those yachts, fancy clothing, all those cars, and so on, have at it. For me, all of that is meaningless. I value humanity. I want to see all of us succeed. I want this world to be a better place. This is why I would give most of my billion dollars away. I know how many people I could help. I know how good that would make me feel inside. For those that have a lot of money, look inside yourselves. It’s time for you to join humanity.
