What to Expect When You Take up Exercising in Your 50s and Beyond
In a few short months, I will be turning 50. My wife will turn 50 a couple of months after me. Both of us have experienced quite a lot of aches and pains in our mid-40s. We’ve come to the realization that we need to start exercising if we want to take better care of ourselves. If you’re like me, you probably haven’t exercised a whole lot in your life. In fact, the last time I was even in the gym I was around 19 years old. I spent several months in the gym but never kept up with it. Now is I’m about to hit 50, I am spending more time in the gym. I’m trying to look after myself and eat the right foods. I’m doing this with my wife so both of us can enjoy our fifties and beyond. If you have never exercised, there are a few things you can expect once you join a gym.
It Takes Time
A lot of people end up quitting when they start exercising. The main reason for this is that it takes time to see results. It can take even more time when you’re older. You can still get in shape in your fifties and sixties, but it takes more time. You have to look after yourself better. You can’t be eating like you used to do in your twenties or thirties. That’s sort of lifestyle just won’t work anymore. For me, giving up beer 95% of the time has been very difficult. I used to enjoy quite a few beers on Friday nights.
