I’m not a gun owner. The problem with guns is society, it’s not the gun. In the past, America had few mass shootings, yet almost everyone had a gun. People respected each other. Millions of people use firearms day in and day out yet don’t shoot anyone. How are you going to get guns off the street? Once criminals and the cartels see that America is disarmed they will have a field day. The only reason cartels don’t move further into Texas is that they know ranchers will shoot them.
You see few shootings in rural areas, it’s mostly all in large cities. Banning firearms won't get them off the street and you’ll see crime as well as murder skyrocket due to the huge number of illegal guns still in the hands of criminals. No one seems to have the answer of how to disarm the criminals it’s always those that obey the laws to begin with. It’s funny how that works.
Regular people are not just going to turn them in. The vast majority of gun owners won't surrender their rights to self-defense. It’s no longer the 1990s and there is way more mistrust of the govt and their policies which many simply no longer agree with.
One side wants strict gun control, the other side does not. All the makings for a very serious problem. Obtw, I’m from Canada where we have severe gun restrictions. The govt still wants more control over the ability of the citizen to protect their rights despite those tough laws.
