COVID-19 Coronavirus and Toilet Paper Riots

Humans are odd creatures. We have so much fear inside of ourselves. I guess it’s our own mortality that drives it. Now with the new Coronavirus outbreak, it’s bringing out the worst in us. Of course, it doesn’t take much for this to happen. I’ve seen it time and time again.

As the virus makes its way around the world, we have resorted to beating the shit out of each other over toilet paper and other necessities. To me, it’s another reminder of how far we have to go as a species on this planet. I’m not about to go to the mall and beat the hell out of people over my ability to squeeze the Charmin.

We are incapable of handling problems such as a new virus. We are gripped by fear and paranoia. We care more about our own miserable lives than what the virus actually represents. The virus is another indication our planet is in peril. The virus isn’t the problem. It’s just another example of the pestilence we have become on this planet. Dr. Zaius, in the original Planet of the Apes, was right about us.

“You are right, I have always known about man. From the evidence, I believe his wisdom must walk hand and hand with his idiocy.”

“You are a menace. A walking pestilence.”

Our Planet Fights Back

We have collectively taken advantage of this planet for far too long. Now, we see the results of our transgressions. We destroy far more than we create. For all our technological improvements, we still haven’t learned anything. We could take our technology today and create a world that is far better then what we have now. We won’t do this because of our need and desire for money and profit.

Instead of coming together for the common good of all of us and the planet, we instead decide to scrap with each other over the ability to wipe our ass. Perhaps it’s the planet wiping its own ass of us. We are the problem on the planet, not the planet itself. We have been given the gift of life. We have air to breathe, water, the ability to grow food, but instead, we rape and pillage our world for profit. It’s no wonder the planet fights back.

“How can we be so arrogant? The planet is, was, and always will be stronger than us. We can’t destroy it; if we overstep the mark, the planet will simply erase us from its surface and carry on existing. Why don’t they start talking about not letting the planet destroy us?”

― Paulo Coelho

Our Future

What sort of future do we want on planet earth? Shall we continue to strip our resources in the never-ending quest for more numbers in our pocketbook? How many any more forests will we decimate, how much water will be contaminated? How many will more children starve and die? Shall we just pollute the living shit out of our world forever? How many more Pacific Garbage Patches much we create?

Viruses are a Wake-Up Call

Whether it’s COVID-19, HiN1, SARS, or other viruses, it’s a wake-up call for us as a species. We need to do better. I, for one, have no more faith in humanity. Perhaps the virus will bring us all together. Traumatic events have done it in the past, like 9/11 or WWII. Maybe we can fight for the common good. Nah, there’s too much profit to be made. Think of the profits on $100 bottles of hand sanitizer. OMG……

“We are in danger of destroying ourselves by our greed and stupidity. We cannot remain looking inwards at ourselves on a small and increasingly polluted and overcrowded planet.” Stephen Hawking
