COVID-19 and Economic Ruin
We are now into late April of the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic which began in late 2019. So far, this virus has infected around 2.4 million people around the world. It has killed around 168,000 and the number keeps going up. It’s hard to say how many people this virus will infect and how many will end up dying from it. There is just no way to determine the exact number it will be impacted by this virus.
In the past, we have seen outbreaks of all sorts of different viruses. We have had cholera, typhoid, smallpox, polio, dysentery, malaria, flu outbreaks, ebola, and many other serious illnesses. Throughout all of those outbreaks, we have not shut down in the entire world. A large portion of the world is shut down although in a few places things are starting to open up again.
The main problem with this is we have literally crashed the world economy over a virus that statistically speaking, has not killed that many people. It is estimated that around 50 million people die each year of all sorts of causes around the world. In 2015 for example, 57 million people died worldwide. This is from all sorts of causes, not just illness. We’ve shut down the entire world of 7.7 billion people for the most part for a virus that is only infected 2.4 million.
Now, exponential growth shows us that the virus may infect a lot more and this may be the case. The…
